ELVINO MOTTI

“Elvino Motti is a visceral sculptor who explores the concept of “absolute” through his art. He works the material in search of the essence of things. He sculptures wood, stone and marble, smoothing them, assembling them with the patinated bronze, mixing materials with contrasting colors and shapes of abstract and figurative nature. He is interested in modeled sculpture as well as restitution of an obstinate idea that is born from his slow and exact gesture, and from these shapes come a light, a brightness that is the spark of life. His art combines the sense of the material, primordial vitality and sensitiveness that allow him to create essential, almost primitive shapes. In the case of the work King and Queen, two monumental figures in wood, Elvino Motti represents the subject of the regal couple”. (Dominique Stella) The two personages of this work are born at the meeting of the artist’s with an old olive tree uprooted by a snowfall in 2011 and with the invitation done by his critic and historian of the art Giammarco Puntelli in 2015 to take part in a project supported the the Holy Seat entitled “L’Eternità nell’Arte” held in Rome in 2016 on the occasion of the closing of the Holy Door. Two almost archaic monoliths remind us of the famous regal couple of Ekkehard II and of his spouse Uta de Ballenstedt who occupy the chorus of the cathedral of Naumburg.
